Wildflour Cafe + Bakery (BGC) • Take II

Agua Fresca PHP 110
"Cucumber, lime, mint"

Good Morning Sunshine Smoothie PHP 240
"Strawberry, pineapple, mango, banana, yogurt, agave"
Mushroom Salad PHP 360
"Arugula, shaved apples, pistachio, parmesan"

The rest of the ingredients aside from the arugula are all pretty muted in flavor, which emphasizes the strong taste of arugula even more. It's really all about preference in taste in this case - I personally don't like arugula alone as a salad so I didn't enjoy this one as much as my mom did.
Eggs on Toast PHP 450
"Smoked salmon, poached egg, scrambled eggs, bearnaise"

This dish was surprisingly heavy because of the two way cooked eggs, despite the fluffiness of the scrambled eggs and the airy bread. The edges of the toast were dense and the slightest bit crunchy, while the middle was soft and light. It's a simple dish I'll always enjoy.

Wildflour Cafe + Bakery (BGC)

Complimentary baguette and butter

In most Filipino households, there are four meals a day not three. There's breakfast, lunch, marienda and dinner. My mom and I came from a hot yoga class so we were tired, hungry and ready for our marienda!
Vietnamese Latte (small) PHP 115
Iced Cubano PHP 115
"Espresso, cinnamon"
It was a rainy day and we were both in the mood for some coffee. I chose the Iced Cubano which I really liked, but it's not for those who don't prefer their coffee strong and the taste of cinnamon. My mom enjoyed her Vietnamese Latte, and she usually likes her coffee sweet.
Tarte Flambee: fuji apples, brie, arugula, port wine reduction PHP 425
My mom and I are crazy about brie so the choice of flavor for our tarte flamee was a no brainer. I really like Wildflour's tarte flambees because the dough is airy, crispy and somewhat flaky. It was so good I could eat one whole all to myself. I know not everyone appreciates brie since it's an acquired taste, but the brie taste is faint enough for non brie lovers to like. The post wine reduction sauce adds a tangy edge.
My mom and I were originally planning on having cronuts with our coffee but when we got there they said there was none left. Then just as we were finishing up our flambee a customer cancelled their three box order of cronuts. It all ran out in less then a minute...
Chocolate Cronut PHP 120 + Dulce de Leche Premium Cronut PHP 150

Recovery Food

Iced Tea (by the bottle) PHP 90
Their house blend iced tea had a slight calamansi taste to it, a bit too sweet for my liking though.
Barcia's Strips PHP 125
"Thinly sliced strips of pork, fried"
A sinful starter for our sinful meal, deep fried slices of half fat half pork. It was surprisingly not drenched in oil which made me feel a little less guilty.
Tapa de Morning PHP 260
(full recovery with brown rice)
"Homemade tapa, scrambled or fried egg, ensalada, organic plain rice (brown or white)"
Delicious tapa, but disappointing fried egg. I like the tapa but I'm not crazy about it, Grams Diner's tapa still stands as me and my mom's favorite!
Happy Beef Rice PHP 160
(regular size with brown rice)
"Tender beef rice topping with RF's special Beef Rice (brown or white)"
The sauce was sweet and the meat was tender. According to the waiter both the dishes that we ordered are their bestsellers.

It was my first time eating here and they obviously don't mean "recovery food" literally.
What's your idea of comfort food?

Now Open: Cold Stone Creamery in Manila

Whenever I bump into a Cold Stone branch abroad, I never pass up the chance to get something. It's one of my all time favorite ice cream parlors and it's finally available in the Philippines! Their first and only branch in the country is located in Serendra, where Le Petit Artisan used to be.

Early Bird Breakfast Club

I love breakfast food dearly and see it as comfort food but I'm definitely not a morning person. During the summer I wake up way too late, and during the school year I'm always rushing out the door and never have enough time to have a proper breakfast. The fact that there have been more all day breakfast spots popping up lately (like IHOP) makes Manila, I believe, a happier place.

There's nothing serious about a breakfast joint, just good food and cheery vibes. The bright colors and cute patterns exclaims "happy," even on a stormy day.

Ginger Peach Lemonade PHP 125
The ginger doesn't have an overpowering taste at all, it balances with the sweetness of the peach and is light and refreshing.

Pineapple Sunshine PHP 125
I would have enjoyed this more if it was smoother and had less fiber.

Eggs Benedict PHP 420
"Toasted English muffin with arm honey roast ham, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce."

I played it safe for some reason and ordered their eggs benedict. I always enjoy a well executed eggs benedict and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The english muffin was slightly crunchy (and not soggy from the hollandaise sauce) and the two eggs were poached perfectly.

French Toast Fondue PHP 210
"Served with cinnamon sugar, maple syrup and melted chocolate."

I don't like my french toast soggy so I really liked this. Having them cut up in a way where you can use your fingers makes eating french toast way more fun. The sesame seeds on the bread also added a nice touch to the dish. And how cute is the presentation? They were able to make use of the egg shells as dip containers instead of just throwing them away!

Whether you're a morning person or not, don't fret because they're open from 7 am to 10 pm on Sundays to Thursdays, and 24 hours from Fridays to Saturdays.

Now Open: IHOP in Bonifacio Global City

IHOP or International House of Pancakes opened their first branch here in the Philippines to the public, yesterday, February 15. Since it was their first day open and it was a Friday it took about an hour's wait before my friends and I were able to snag a table. The photo above is their second floor, the first floor is used as the waiting area and have a few tables there too.

They offer four different flavors of syrup (the last one's not included in the photo) old fashioned, butter pecan (my favorite), strawberry and blueberry.

Splashberry (refillable) PHP 175
"A blend of IHOP's juicy red strawberries, lemon-lime soda and premium orange juice."

This was extremely refreshing, perfect for when it's hot outside (which is almost all the time here in the Philippines...) Plus each time they refilled my splasher they always made sure to include a couple of fresh strawberries.

Specialty Sampler PHP 275
"One egg, one strip of crispy bacon, one pork sausage link, one piece of ham, hash browns and one buttermilk pancake"
Or if you're feeling extra hungry, you can order the Breakfast Sampler for PHP 395 which is pretty much the same thing, except it's a double of everything including the pancake.

Instead of getting just the plain buttermilk pancake that the Specialty Sampler comes with, my friend Ilka upgraded hers to a Double Blueberry Pancake (buttermilk pancake filled with blueberries and topped with warm blueberry campote and whipped topping), but of course she had to pay extra.

Big Steak Omelette PHP 325
"Tender strips pf steak, hash browns, fresh green peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. Served with salsa."

Instead of just getting two plain buttermilk pancakes that the omelette comes with I upgraded it to the New York Cheesecake Pancakes (two fluffy buttermilk pancakes loaded with creamy, rich cheesecake pieces and crowned with cool strawberries, powdered sugar and whipped topping.)

Breakfast food for me is the ultimate comfort food and I love having it anytime of the day. They have endless breakfast choices here, both sweet and savory dishes. But if you're not so keen on breakfast food don't worry because they've got other things on the menu like sandwiches, burgers, salads, dinner meals and more.

Everything was delicious and you can tell that all the ingredients they used were fresh, especially the fruits they used like the blueberries and strawberries. All the waiters are cheery and accommodating, it's just an all in all great casual place to dine no matter who you're with whether you're with your friends, family or a date!
